Machu Picchu
Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu through snow-capped mountains, lakes, cloud forest & the Peruvian jungle. 5 days, 72km, 4,650m peak, 100s of coca teas / 5am rises… one Seven Wonder.
Quick stop off at some zip lining over a valley. They allowed me to do barefoot, so you can only imagine the elation. Can now confirm that suspension bridge has overtaken the bicycle on the zip line fear scale.
Following a tough 1 hour stair master session on final morning to the long awaited Incan citadel, we were initially greeted by a sinister fog. Panic stations. But the kingdom could not hide for long. Enter sun. The lost city shone in all its glory. Our guide even showed us how to make counterfeit tickets for the best circuit. None of that queuing for days malarkey. For tips on this technique, comment FRAUD 25 below.
Train back down a luxury experience. Although sadly straight onto a night bus. You hate to see it. Overall, despite the 4th day mentally destroying me, a surprisingly smooth experience.
